At Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, in Venice, a two-day conference dedicated to "Marco Polo's Venice. The Poliano Diplomatic Code (1280-1388)"

16 January 2024

2024 celebrates the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo (9 January 1324). For the occasion, Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, in Venice, decided to collaborate with the State Archives of Venice and the Marciana National Library, for the promotion of the critical edition, in print and on the web, of the Poliano Diplomatic Code. It is a series of documents so far known for covering the historical figure of Marco Polo, which is now a National Edition recognized by decree of the Minister of Culture of the Italian Republic.

In addition to presenting the project and the National Edition of the Code, the conference - which sees the participation of the major polianos experts - intends to delve deeper, based on the surviving documentation, into Marco Polo's relationship with Venice, focusing in particular on the last years of the life of this famous merchant and traveller, when, returning to the East, he lived in Venice centring his life around his family and business.
