The 38th Wizz Air Venicemarathon celebrates the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death

15 July 2024

This year marks the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo, one of the world's most famous and iconic Venetian figures. Universally known and appreciated also thanks to his book ‘Il Milione’, Marco Polo, above all for Venetians, is a reference figure for the history, development and image of Venice in the world and for having created a bridge with the East and in particular with China.

Venicemarathon, which has always been attentive to promoting the history and culture of the territory, will also honour this important anniversary, dedicating a series of initiatives to the famous traveller, merchant and writer, including the official Joma technical jersey. The effigy of Marco Polo will therefore be reproduced on all t-shirts, which registered participants will receive as a gift together with the race package: an authentic collector's item for runners from all over the world.

Joma, the Spanish sports brand of reference in running and the new technical sponsor of the Venicemarathon, is therefore proud to present the exclusive running shirt for the 2024 edition. To make it, Joma has applied all the highest quality standards expected of its products: quality and technicality. Essential characteristics for the creation of a technical product such as a running shirt must be.

Conceived by the Research and Development Innovation Department of Joma Sport in close collaboration with the organisational staff of the Venicemarathon, the T-shirt is made of 90 g MESH polyester in a 100% recycled fabric to minimise its impact on the environment. The fabric chosen is characterised by its high elasticity, breathability and lightness. The drymx finishing gives the product greater breathability, for easier disposal of body heat and rapid evaporation of sweat, so that the body is always at a constant temperature and stays dry. The seams, flatlock type, and the choice of inserting the logos directly into the printing system, are details that help to avoid any kind of chafing on the skin. Other features of this product include the lap collar, the raglan cut of the sleeve and the slim, dry fit. All the technical details have been designed for greater freedom of movement, elasticity and greater comfort for the athlete.

Venicemarathon is therefore happy to be able to contribute to honouring the memory of Marco Polo and to be part of the busy programme of events and celebrations promoted throughout the year by the Venice City Council.

The 38th Wizz Air Venicemarathon will be run on Sunday 27 October, as always along the traditional and spectacular route that runs from the Riviera del Brenta to the heart of Venice, in Riva Sette Martiri: a finish line that will also welcome the arrivals of the other two side races, namely the half marathon and the 10K.
