#MarcoPolo700: Ennio Morricone’s Soundtrack in St. Mark’s Square on June 29th, 2024

24 April 2024

The soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone for the 1982 RAI TV drama Marco Polo, will premiere on June 29th, 2024, in St. Mark’s Square, Venice.

This event is part of the celebrations in honor of the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death (1324- 2024).

‘Ennio Morricone- Marco Polo Soundtrack’ is a Zen Production realized in partnership with Veneto Jazz together with the City of Venice, the National Committee for the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death and Vela SPA.

The project is based on a concept by the ‘Filarmonia Veneta’ Regional Orchestra, directed by Danilo Rossi, the first viola of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

A unique opportunity to experience a live orchestra performing Morricone’s timeless music, accompanied by images taken from one of the most popular RAI TV dramas, directed by Giuliano Montaldo (1930- 2023).

An event that combines music, cinema, and history, that was made possible thanks to a partnership with RAI, that provided the images of the drama, as well as with the Morricone family, who supplied the original music score.

The soundtrack includes 36 songs, for more than 2 hours of music. Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro reckons that no other place like St. Mark’s Square could host such a unique performance.

In addition, images from the Archivio Montanaro will be displayed, showing the backstage of the production in St. Mark’s Square and the costumes for the scenes set in Tibet, realized by Stefano Nicolao’s atelier.
