"Journey of Knowledge: Marco Polo’s masterpiece “Il Milione” and his legacy between the East and the West" opens in Beijing. An event that celebrates the 700th anniversary from the death of Marco Polo (Venice, 1254 – 1324), the most famous venetian travellers of all times. At the opening ceremony the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in China until July 31st for the official state visit of the Country.
Hosted by the China World Art Museum, the exhibition will be opened until November 24th. The Museum is known worldwide for the bas-relief that tells the Chinese history, in which are also represented the Italians Marco Polo and Matteo Ricci.
Six sections that leads the visitors through an ideal path that recalls the journey of Marco Polo. An itinerary that resembles the pages of “Il Milione”.
The Venetian traveller had a key role in establishing contacts between the East and the West, especially in the fields of culture and trade. New goods, ideas, knowledge and information led Europe to know and understand a new part of the World.
An important wing of this exhibition is entirely dedicated to warriors and craftsman working with metal between Italy and the East. The last section hosts art masterpieces from the XIX century recalling the adventures of Marco Polo.
A final chapter of this great project allows visitors to live the journey of Marco Polo in a new and virtual dimension by means of technological devices. From Venice to the Chinese Empire of Kublai Khan, a great digital experience through the Silk Road.
This exhibition also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Stategic Partnership established between China and Italy and promoted by the Italian Embassy in Beijing, the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing with the coordination of the Institute of the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Italian Cooperation as well as with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture, The Veneto Region and the partnership of the Ministry of Culture and Chines Tourism.
